Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Karibu Tanzania! After landing at Arusha ,you'll be given a warm welcome by your guide. The scent of Africa hangs in the air as you're driven to your accommodation. The rest of the day is entirely yours. Relax and settle in after your journey. In the evening, you'll receive a detailed briefing on your upcoming 11-day safari in Tanzania.
Day 2: Safari in Tarangire National Park
At 8:00 a.m., your safari begins with the drive to Tarangire National Park, around three hours from Arusha. Welcome to the land of giants! Tarangire covers 2,800 km² and is famous for its huge elephant herds – the largest concentration in all of Tanzania.
On your full-day game drive, you'll discover the fascinating wildlife along the Tarangire River, the park's lifeline. Majestic baobab trees dominate the landscape and provide a spectacular backdrop. Keep an eye out for lions, leopards, pythons and the park's rich birdlife. With this much scenic and wildlife variety, you won't know where to look first!
Day 3: Drive to the Serengeti
After breakfast, your journey takes you into the world-famous Serengeti. The drive itself is an experience in its own right. You'll pass through the fertile highlands of the Iraqw and cross the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a first breathtaking view of the crater.
Welcome to the pulse of the wild! The Serengeti – "endless plain" in the Maasai language – is one of northern Tanzania's premier wildlife destinations. Here you'll find one of the best places in the world for big cat sightings. The iconic acacias and wide horizons of the Serengeti plains create a safari experience without equal. There's no better destination than the Serengeti!
Day 4: Full-Day Safari in the Serengeti
A whole day in the heart of the wild! The Serengeti is home to an incredible variety of wildlife: impalas, buffalo, crocodiles and hippos. But it's world-famous for the Great Migration: over 1.5 million wildebeest along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles cross the plains in search of fresh grass.
Depending on the season, the herds move from the wooded hills in the north to the grass plains in the south between November and December. From April to June, they return. Predators are never far from the migrating herds – leopards, cheetahs and lions follow their prey. From sunrise to a breathtaking canopy of stars, you'll fall into step with the rhythm of nature!
Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim
After a morning game drive in the Serengeti, you'll travel to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way, you'll have another chance to spot the Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard all roam freely across the open reserves.
Once at the crater rim, a view awaits that's almost too good to be true. Look down into the vast caldera – glittering streams, wide grasslands and an incredible variety of wildlife. Enjoy the sunset in soft shades of orange and the anticipation of tomorrow's safari highlight on your 11-day trip to Tanzania!
Day 6: Safari in the Ngorongoro Crater and return to Arusha
Early risers are rewarded! The sun rising over the crater rim is a magical moment. After breakfast, you'll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
This largest intact caldera in the world was formed millions of years ago by an immense volcanic eruption. At 610 metres deep and covering 260 km², it is home to around 25,000 large mammals – the highest wildlife density of any park in Tanzania! Within minutes you'll see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants and over 500 bird species. With a little luck, you'll glimpse the endangered black rhino. After this unforgettable experience, you'll drive back to Arusha.
Day 7: Flight to Zanzibar and Stone Town
A day of contrasts! After breakfast, you'll be taken to the airport and fly to ZanzibarThere, the salty sea breeze of the Indian Ocean greets you – the Zanzibar chapter of your 11-day trip to Tanzania begins!
Stone Town is a fascinating place, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once the centre of a trading network that stretched across the Indian Ocean to Persia and India. The multi-storey coral stone houses and their winding alleyways reflect its rich history. Immerse yourself in the cosmopolitan Swahili culture and let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the spice island!
Day 8: Beach day at Nungwi Beach
Barefoot in paradise! Today is given over entirely to relaxing at Nungwi Beach, one of Zanzibar's most beautiful stretches of sand. Feel the powder-soft sand between your toes and swim in the crystal-clear turquoise water.
Nungwi is legendary for its spectacular sunsets and was once an important centre for building traditional dhow sailing boats. Visit the turtle conservation project and learn more about species protection. Or discover the fascinating underwater world while snorkelling – the colours and marine life are extraordinary! Enjoy the ultimate island feeling as the perfect contrast to your exhilarating safari.
Day 9: Exploring the culture of Stone Town
Experience the whispering history of Zanzibar! At 7:30 a.m., you'll be picked up for an in-depth tour of Stone Town. Numerous historic sites tell the story of this city's fascinating past.
The Old Fort, built in the late 17th century to fend off Portuguese attacks, now serves as a cultural centre with art exhibitions and performances. The House of Wonders, a former palace of Sultan Barghash, is now home to a museum about the history of Zanzibar and its people. Lose yourself in the winding alleyways and feel the pulse of this history-steeped city!
Day 10: Prison Island and Nakupenda Beach
An open-air sanctuary for giant tortoises, originally from the Seychelles – some of them over 100 years old!
Afterwards, depending on the tides and the weather, you'll head to the Nakupenda sandbank, a narrow strip of powder-soft sand in the middle of the turquoise ocean. Swimming, snorkelling and a fresh seafood barbecue await you. The perfect finale to your 11-day trip to Tanzania!
Day 11: Departure from Zanzibar
The final day of your unforgettable journey has arrived. With a heart full of memories, you'll be taken to the airport at a time that suits you. The wild savannahs of the Serengeti, the majestic caldera of Ngorongoro and the tropical beaches of Zanzibar.
