Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
After landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be given a warm welcome by your safari guide. Day 2: Safari in Tarangire National Park
Early in the morning, your safari sets off for Tarangire Nationalpark. This park is the land of giants – famous for its huge elephant herds and the majestic, ancient baobab trees that dominate the landscape.
The Tarangire River is the park's lifeline and draws countless animals during the dry season. On your game drive, keep an eye out for lions stalking their prey and leopards resting lazily in the treetops. The landscape shifts from seasonal marshes to open savannah – a fascinating variety that will delight you!
Day 3: Drive to the Central Serengeti
After breakfast, your journey takes you into the Serengeti – a name that comes from the Maasai language and means "endless plain." The Central Serengeti around the Seronera Valley is regarded as Africa's "big cat capital." Over 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards and 3,500 hyenas live here. Watch the spectacular herds of wildebeest, zebras and antelope moving across the iconic savannah landscape with its acacias.
Day 4: Central Serengeti – Northern Serengeti
After a morning game drive in the Central Serengeti, you'll continue on to the Northern Serengeti – to the legendary Mara River. This is where one of the greatest natural spectacles on Earth takes place: the Great Migration! Over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras cross the crocodile-infested river on their way to Kenya's Maasai Mara. Your experienced guide will take you to the best vantage points to witness this breathtaking drama up close. The best time for the river crossings is from July to early October.
Day 5: The Great Migration in the Northern Serengeti
Early in the morning, you'll set off on extended game drives along the Mara River. The Great Migration is the largest land mammal migration in the world. Massive herds of wildebeest and zebras plunge into the raging waters while crocodiles lie in wait. Predators such as lions and cheetahs are never far away. In the afternoon, you'll then drive back to the Central Serengeti.
Day 6: Safari in the Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater begins is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and is regarded as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was formed millions of years ago by an immense volcanic explosion.
The crater floor is home to around 30,000 large mammals in just 260 square kilometres – the highest wildlife density of any park in Tanzania. Within minutes you'll see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants and, with a little luck, the rare black rhino. Over 500 bird species, among them flamingos and eagles, make this place even more magical.
Day 7: Flight to Zanzibar – Stone Town
After a final look at the Tanzanian wilderness, you'll be taken to the airport. On arrival in Zanzibar, the salty sea breeze of the Indian Ocean greets you. A transfer takes you to Stone Town, the historic heart of the island. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the centre of a trading network that stretched across Persia and India.
Day 8: Exploring Stone Town
With a local guide, you'll explore the winding alleyways of Stone Town. Admire the multi-storey coral stone houses with their intricately carved doors, brass fittings and overhanging balconies – a fascinating legacy of Swahili-Omani culture.
Visit the 17th-century Old Fort, which once fended off Portuguese attacks, and the House of Wonders, the former sultan's palace. The cosmopolitan atmosphere, shaped by Arab, Indian and African influences, makes every step a journey of discovery. Afterwards, you'll transfer to your beach hotel.
Days 9–12: Beach holiday in Zanzibar
The next four days are given over to pure relaxation and form the perfect contrast to your exhilarating safari. Zanzibar's beaches are world-famous for their powder-soft sand, crystal-clear turquoise water and gently swaying palms.
