Day 1: Arrival in Arusha – Usa River
After arriving at the airport, you'll be given a warm welcome and your 15-day trip to Tanzania begins. The transfer takes you to Usa River, an idyllic settlement just 23 kilometres east of Arusha, nestled between Ndurdoto Crater and Arusha National Park.
Use this first day to settle in and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings. If you like, explore the nearby Arusha National Park with its many walking trails and rich birdlife. Immerse yourself in the local culture with visits to traditional villages, or relax at the famous Kikuletwa hot springs.
Day 2: Lake Burunge – Tarangire National Park
Today you'll drive to Lake Burunge in the Manyara region – your gateway to spectacular Tarangire National Park.The lake offers uninterrupted views over the surrounding wilderness and is the perfect starting point for your game drives.
Tarangire National Park is known as the land of giants! Famous for its huge elephant herds and its majestic, ancient baobab trees, this park delivers unforgettable safari experiences. Watch animals quench their thirst at the lake as the sun sinks golden below the horizon. Guided nature walks and visits to the neighbouring Mbugwe villages give you fascinating insights into the culture and way of life of this region.
Day 3: Safari in the Ngorongoro Crater
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is regarded as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa and offers the best wildlife viewing of any park in Tanzania. The caldera is 610 metres deep and home to around 25,000 large mammals across an area of 260 square kilometres. Within just a few minutes you'll see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants and, with a little luck, the rare black rhino. Lions and cheetahs roam the tall grass while over 500 bird species fill the sky. Outside the crater, Maasai herders live in traditional coexistence with the wild.
Days 4–5: Ndutu – the Serengeti and the Great Migration
You'll spend the next two days in Ndutu, in the northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, right on the border of the majestic Serengeti. This region is world-famous as the stage for the Great Migration!
The endless grass plains provide the perfect habitat for hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, antelope and zebras on their annual journey. Experience this spectacular natural event up close! Explore the woodland around Lake Ndutu and watch leopards, lions, cheetahs and servals on the hunt. Visit the fascinating archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge, the Cradle of Mankind. Optionally, you can take an unforgettable hot-air balloon flight over the plains or enjoy a guided tour with the local Maasai.
Days 6–7: Karatu – Maasai Culture and Markets
Karatu sits picturesquely on the edge of the Ngorongoro massif and is a lively, colourful small town – the perfect stop-off on your safari. This is where the Maasai gather for the weekly market.
Explore the colourful market stalls overflowing with spices, fruit and vegetables. From Karatu, you can head out on further game drives in nearby Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. These two days offer the perfect balance of safari experiences and cultural discoveries before the Zanzibar chapter of your 15-day trip to Tanzania begins!
Day 8-9: Stone Town - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Immerse yourself in the distinctive atmosphere of this fascinating port city! Lose yourself in the labyrinth of alleyways and discover lively bazaars, venerable merchants' houses and impressive mosques. The House of Wonders and the Sultan's Palace tell of a rich trading history, when Arabs, Indians and Portuguese used Zanzibar as an important commercial hub. The architecture of the multi-storey coral stone houses reflects this cosmopolitan past.
Days 10–15: Beach holiday in Jambiani
The final six days of your trip to Tanzania are dedicated to pure relaxation. Jambiani lies on Zanzibar's picturesque southeast coast and enchants with endlessly long, powder-white sandy beaches and turquoise water.
Feel the fine sand between your toes and unwind completely! The village's name means "at the place of the knife" – according to an old legend, the villagers once found a knife with a rounded blade in the sand. Seaweed farms stretch along the coast, offering insights into local life. Take part in Swahili cooking classes, visit local schools, or enjoy first-class kitesurfing in the ideal wind conditions.
