Day 1: Full-Day Safari in Tarangire National Park
Karibu Tanzania! Your 6-day safari in Tanzania begins with a genuine highlight. After breakfast, you'll drive to Tarangire National Park the land of giants. This fascinating park impresses with nine different vegetation zones and an incomparable landscape.
Ancient baobab trees, the largest trees in Africa, dominate the scene and make the animals beneath them look tiny. The Tarangire River winds its way through the park and draws an incredible variety of wildlife: elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, zebras, giraffes and colourful birds. Tarangire is famous for having Tanzania's largest elephant population – take your time watching elephant families interact with one another. A picnic lunch at a viewpoint overlooking the animals at the river rounds off this spectacular day!
Day 2: Safari in Lake Manyara National Park
Today your journey takes you across the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National parkAlthough this park is fairly compact at 205 square miles, it enchants with its unique beauty – lush acacia woodland with giant fig and mahogany trees, home to baboons and blue monkeys.
The park is home to large herds of buffalo, giraffes, elephants and impalas, as well as a hippo pool where numerous hippos wallow. With over 400 bird species, Lake Manyara is a paradise for bird lovers – here you'll spot the rare ground hornbill and the crowned eagle. The park is world-famous for its tree-climbing lions and the flamingos along the lakeshore. Game drives along the lake offer spectacular photo opportunities: giraffes and buffalo in the foreground, the lake with its pink flamingos behind them and the vast plains stretching to the horizon!
Day 3: Drive to the Serengeti via Oldupai Gorge
Today a spectacular drive into the world-famous Serengeti awaits you! You'll climb up into the Ngorongoro Highlands and stop at the crater rim for a breathtaking panoramic view down into the caldera. Then the endless Serengeti opens up before you, as far as the eye can see.
In the Maasai language, "Serengeti" means "endless plains" – and this 18,000-square-kilometre park is home to over two million large mammals. Along the way, you'll stop at the famous Oldupai Gorge, where Dr Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the remains of the first upright-walking humans. After a short talk and a museum visit at this "Cradle of Mankind," you'll set off in the afternoon on your first game drive through the Serengeti. History and wilderness in a single day!
Day 4: Full-Day Safari in Serengeti National Park
Welcome to the pulse of the wild! A whole day belongs to the legendary Serengeti – the centrepiece of your 6-day Tanzania safari. On morning and afternoon game drives, you'll explore this world-famous ecosystem.
Over a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras and Thomson's gazelles roam these plains. Big predators such as lions, cheetahs and hyenas follow this incredible abundance of prey. But smaller residents too – rock hyraxes, bat-eared foxes, mongooses, honey badgers and jackals, along with almost 500 bird species – make the Serengeti a paradise for wildlife viewing. Depending on the season, you'll witness parts of the legendary Great Migration – one of the greatest natural spectacles on our planet!
Tip: Tip: You can optionally book a hot-air balloon safari at sunrise.
Day 5: Serengeti – Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater Rim
A day of contrasts! Get up very early for a morning game drive, when the animals are at their most active. Watch one of the most beautiful sunrises of your life break over the African savannah – a moment that stays with you forever.
After brunch at camp, you'll drive to Ngorongoro – the Eighth Natural Wonder of the World. With walls 600 metres high and a crater floor covering 260 square kilometres, this caldera is a virtual Noah's Ark. Almost every animal species in East Africa lives here, including the rare black rhino. The concentration of wildlife is the highest anywhere on the planet! Thanks to the mineral-rich volcanic soil, the bull elephants here carry the largest tusks you'll ever see. You'll reach the crater rim just in time for sunset – a magical end to the day.
Day 6: Safari in the Ngorongoro Crater and Departure
The crowning finale of your 6-day safari in Tanzania! Very early in the morning, you'll descend to the crater floor for a full day of wildlife viewing in one of the most incredible places on Earth.
Around 25,000 large mammals live side by side in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The crater contains a river, several marshes, a soda lake full of flamingos, woodland and open grass plains. Here you have the best chance of seeing the Big Five in a single day! A picnic lunch at Hippo Lake overlooking the bathing hippos is an unforgettable experience. After one last afternoon game drive, you'll climb the steep road out of the crater and return, with a heart full of memories, to Arusha or the airport.
