Sangaiwe Tented Lodge

It is around an hour’s drive from the main gate of Tarangire National Park, but only five minutes from the new Sangaiwe Gate. Sangaiwe Tented Lodge lies outside the park in a Wildlife Management Area, spread across a wooded hillside with African hardwoods. The tents stand on wooden platforms, each with a permanently attached bathroom and a terrace looking out across Lake Burunge to the Rift Valley. Inside there is a desk, seating and room for luggage, and families stay in cottages with two bedrooms. The sun heats the water and the electricity is solar too, so at night it gets properly dark. There is full board, a restaurant, a large communal area under a thatched roof and a pool. Besides game drives, the programme includes walks, birdwatching and massages. A word of warning: the tents climb up the hillside, so if you stay at the top, you have a little ascent ahead of you every time. Fitness programme included.
