Winters Tented Lodge
Tented lodge between Tarangire and Manyara
An Irish bishop as the namesake of a safari lodge? It’s true: Winters Tented Lodge is named after the first bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mbulu, and the diocese owns it too, just as it owns the sister lodge, Hhando Coffee Lodge in Karatu. The lodge lies in Mbuyu wa Mjerumani on the slopes of Mount Mission, three kilometres off the road from Arusha to Babati. It is 21 kilometres to the Sangaiwe Gate of Tarangire National Park and 38 to Lake Manyara National Park. The ten permanent tents, two of them for families, each stand on their own raised stainless-steel platform, every one with its own bathroom and a terrace overlooking Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley. The pool is built in among the rocks, and dinner is served as a buffet or plated, with traditional, vegetarian and local dishes.
