Maasai Village Visit (Boma)

Maasai Village Visit (Boma)

The Maasai are a semi-nomadic, cattle-herding people living across much of northern Tanzania and southern Kenya.

Maasai Village Visit (Boma) at a glance

A boma is the traditional Maasai homestead: huts (known as manyattas) arranged around a central cattle enclosure. On the visit, which lasts one to two hours, a host shows you around the village, explains how the huts are built, how the livestock is kept and what daily life looks like, and answers the questions you gather along the way. The hosts often welcome you with singing and the traditional jumping dance of the young warriors. A word of honesty: the visit is also a source of income for the villages, and souvenirs will be offered. You don't have to buy anything, but you do have to stay friendly.
