Zanzibar's coast has natural tidal pools known as an “aquarium”. Two of them are in Nungwi at the northern tip of the island: the Mnarani pool, part of a non-profit conservation initiative, and the Baraka Aquarium; both take in sea turtles that have been injured, for example in fishing nets. On the visit you watch the animals at close quarters and learn how injured turtles are released back into the wild. Good to know: the pool is small and popular; if you like it quiet, come early in the day.
