Safari operators compared
Tanzania has hundreds of safari operators, and from the outside their offers often look the same: the same parks, the same days, similar pictures. The differences lie underneath, in the vehicle, the guide, the accommodation and the price. That is exactly why we exist.
We compare the offers of over 100 local, licensed operators and over 100 places to stay. You can see the result in the “Safari overview”: every tour with the final price for your dates, for each comfort level. Prefer the personal route? Then tell us when you want to travel, for how long and what you would like, and you will have our reply the same day, in German.
What we look for when comparing, you can check for yourself, with any operator in the world. First, the licence: under the Tourism Act of 2008, anyone running safaris in Tanzania needs a licence from the tourism ministry, the Tourist Agency License. Second, the vehicle: a 4x4 with a pop-up roof and a window seat for every guest, not just any minibus. Third, the guide: they shape your safari more than any lodge, from finding the wildlife to the language they speak.
Fourth, the type of trip. With us, all safaris are privately guided: on every route, the vehicle and guide belong to your own travel group alone. If a temptingly cheap offer elsewhere relies on pooled groups, you are comparing apples with oranges; if in doubt, ask.
And fifth, the price behind it all. Park fees are the same everywhere; the differences come from the vehicle, the accommodation and the margin. A reputable offer itemises what is included and sticks to the stated price. Our rule: the fixed price confirmed in writing stays, and nothing gets renegotiated.

Frequently asked questions about comparing operators
How do I recognise a good safari operator?
By four things: a valid licence, a proper safari vehicle with four-wheel drive and window seats, an experienced guide, and a quote that lists everything included in black and white. Prices far below everyone else's should make you suspicious; the difference has to come from somewhere.
Who compares, who drives: how are things divided at Safari Tansania?
We compare, plan with you and look after you in German, before, during and after the trip; the booking goes through us too. On the ground, a licensed tour operator from Tanzania runs your safari, and we give you their name as soon as they have confirmed your trip. You will find the details in the question “Who do I book the safari with?” on the homepage and in our terms and conditions.
Which vehicles are suitable for a safari?
The standard in northern Tanzania is the 4x4 with a pop-up roof, under which you can stand upright to watch and take photos. Make sure every guest gets a window. Air conditioning is not a given: some vehicles have none, others only cool the front. On a game drive, the open roof and the large windows keep the air moving.
Are there safaris with a German-speaking guide?
Yes. With us, advice, the quote and all follow-up questions are handled entirely in German, and a German-speaking guide on the ground is always possible too. Just mention it in your enquiry and we will plan it in from the start.
How safe is a safari in Tanzania?
Tanzania is considered one of the more stable destinations in East Africa, and the safari areas lie far from the border regions for which travel advisories are in place. In the park, the rules are clear: stay in the vehicle, keep your distance, listen to your guide. All the same, take a look at the current travel advice from your foreign office before you leave.
