How much does a safari in Tanzania cost?
Tanzania is not a cheap destination, and that is something even we can't change. What we can change: making sure you understand what you are paying for. A safari is made up of three big items, and you only have your own hand on the dial for two of them.
Item one is the park fees. They are set by the state and identical with every operator, but they are no small sum. In the Serengeti, the daily entry fee ranges from 60 to 80 USD per person depending on the season, and the Ngorongoro Crater, among other things, charges extra for the descent, per vehicle. The fees for each park are on our destination pages, always with the date they refer to.
Item two is the vehicle with its guide. Because our safaris are exclusively privately guided, you share neither with anyone except your own travelling companions. That is exactly where your first chance to save comes from: with four of you, the same 4x4 costs considerably less per head than with two.
Item three is accommodation, the biggest lever of all. Budget, Mid-Range, Luxury and Ultra Luxury are the names of our partners' four tiers, and the first and the last are worlds apart. Good to know: even the Budget tier does not mean compromising on cleanliness, usually only on location and extras.
Our guide prices are per person based on two travellers and include the services in the relevant list of inclusions; international flights to Tanzania are not part of them. You can see the exact final price for your dates and your group in the “Safari overview”, for every tour and every comfort level. It becomes binding once the operator has confirmed your trip: we then confirm the fixed price in writing, and that is where it stays.
And when does it get cheaper? In the rainy season from March to May. Certain national parks lower their fees from 15 March to 15 May, and some lodges and camps offer lower prices during these months. The honest answer, then: you can save through group size, accommodation tier and the time of year, not through the quality of the vehicle and guide.

Frequently asked questions about costs
What makes up the price of a safari?
The park fees, the vehicle with its guide, and the accommodation. The fees are set by the state, the vehicle is split per head across your travel group, and you choose the accommodation tier. All three are already included in our guide prices.
How high are the park fees?
It varies from park to park. Examples per person per day: Tarangire 50 USD, Lake Manyara 59 USD, Serengeti 60 to 80 USD depending on the season; the Ngorongoro Crater also charges descent, vehicle and, where applicable, concession fees (as of 2025 and August 2026 respectively). You don't need to do the maths: with us, the fees are included in the quote.
How much is it usual to tip on a safari?
Tipping is voluntary, but for good work you should definitely budget for it. As a guideline, allow about 10 USD per day per person for the guide; many lodges and camps also have a shared tip box for the team. Keep some cash in small denominations to hand for this, in shillings or dollars.
What do the visa and entry cost?
The visa for Tanzania costs 50 USD (as of March 2024) and can be applied for online in advance or on arrival; your passport must be valid for at least another six months. On top of that comes mandatory inbound travel insurance, on Zanzibar since October 2024 (44 USD per person, as of 2024) and on the mainland since 1 October 2026. One policy covers the whole trip; you take it out wherever you first enter the country.
Are flights included in the price?
International flights to Tanzania are not; you book those yourself or through your travel agent. Domestic flights that are part of the route, however, for example on fly-in safaris or for getting to and from Zanzibar, are part of the quote and itemised separately.
How can I save money on a safari?
In three places: more travelling companions (the vehicle and guide are split across more people), a simpler accommodation tier, and the rainy season from March to May, when some lodges and camps are cheaper and certain national parks charge lower fees from 15 March to 15 May. What you shouldn't skimp on: the comparison. And that is exactly what we do for you, free of charge.
