Balloon flights over the savannah are among the best-known ways to experience East Africa's landscape from the air; in Tanzania they are especially associated with the wide plains of the Serengeti.
Hot Air Balloon Safari at a glance
The balloon flight starts before sunrise: as the day breaks, the balloon rises over the plain, sometimes high for the grand panorama, sometimes low enough to watch herds from above. The flight itself lasts 45 to 60 minutes; with transfers and the bush breakfast afterwards, it comes to three to four hours. It is offered mainly in the Serengeti, and also in Tarangire, with a flight time of around 45 minutes. It is an extra and not included in the tour price; you will have to get up early either way.
