Olduvai Gorge

Olduvai Gorge

Olduvai Gorge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area ranks among the world's most important palaeoanthropological sites.

Olduvai Gorge at a glance

Olduvai Gorge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most significant sites in human history: fossils and tools of early human species dating back millions of years have come to light here. It is usually visited as a stop of around an hour on the way between the crater and the Serengeti, with a view into the gorge and a visit to the museum on its rim, which displays fossils, stone tools and replicas of the most important finds. Too short for archaeology fans, but just right for putting the landscape into context.
