Step 1 of 4: Where does your trip start and end?
Four days of Serengeti, and you only see the road there from above: you fly in both directions, and the time in between belongs entirely to the park. You sleep three nights right inside the park; if you finish on Zanzibar, a fourth is added.
You start in Arusha City or on Zanzibar; the way back is from Seronera or, heading for the island, via Mwanza. Either way, it's hard to get more Serengeti per travel day.

The itinerary
Days 1–4
Serengeti National Park
Day 1: Serengeti National Park, arrival by plane
The light aircraft takes off in the morning, and where there would otherwise be a whole day on the road, the first game drive is already beginning: the airstrip lies in the middle of the park. Your guide is waiting there with the vehicle and, to start with, takes you into the grasslands around Seronera, where zebras, gazelles and lions are at home all year round. In the evening darkness falls quickly, and with it the concert of the savannah begins.
Day 2: Serengeti National Park, second day
Day two takes you to the kopjes, those granite islands that rise from the sea of grass and are popular with lions as lookouts. In between there's plenty of time just to watch: a female cheetah in the tall grass, perhaps, elephants on the horizon, vultures over a fresh kill. At midday there's a picnic in the shade, in the afternoon the second round. Back at your accommodation, there's time for the sunset over the plains.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park, third day
Today you get to choose: a lie-in and a leisurely game drive, or out before sunrise for a balloon flight over the Serengeti, which can be booked as an extra and is charged separately. After that, the day follows the animals. The game drives stay in the central Serengeti; your guide knows best what is within reach there at the moment, from a pride of lions to the herds of the Great Migration.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park, last day
For your farewell, the best light once more: the morning game drive starts early and ends at the airstrip. From Seronera you fly back to Arusha City, or in the Zanzibar variant via Mwanza with an extra night. Four days of Serengeti are then behind you, and probably a full memory card.
