Step 1 of 4: Where does your trip start and end?
One day, one crater, great odds: this day trip takes you from Arusha City to the Ngorongoro Crater and down to the crater floor, home to around 25,000 larger animals. There is no overnight stay, and you travel privately, with your own travel group only.
You choose the start and end point yourself: Arusha City or, by plane, the island of Zanzibar. To be honest, it is a long day, because the drive to the crater rim takes a good three hours each way. The reward waits down below: the best chance of a rhino in the north.

Day 1: Ngorongoro Crater
The day starts early, as the drive to the crater rim takes a good three hours. At the top your first view into the crater awaits, then the steep crater road takes you about 500 metres down. Down below, wildebeest and zebras move across the plain, lions and hyenas are seldom far away, and with luck a black rhino appears; game drives are permitted between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. After a picnic comes a second round, in the afternoon you leave the crater, and by evening you are back in Arusha City.
